Paid Teaching in Nepal

Introduction
This program provides you with a unique opportunity to get paid work in Nepal as an English teacher. You will get the extensive orientation on Nepali language, culture, education system in Nepal and many more. You will be taken for the sightseeing before you are taken to school. After orientation and teacher training, you will start your placement, with the choice of many different destinations throughout Nepal.

Preparation
Kathmandu Valley.. This will involve some teacher training but additionally the chance to learn about Nepali culture, customs, and language, as well as some local excursions and sight seeing.

The training will be focused on how to manage a class, what to teach and how to behave yourself in a Nepali classroom. Throughout this training you will also learn more about the Nepali culture and how to get by in this very different society.

Working
The School Placement:
You will be advised of your placement during the training period. It is the schools that determine the placements through selection based on your application. Placement is guaranteed upon the completion of the Introduction & Orientation. Please note that placements cannot be changed once approved.

Professional Responsibilities
Within the school you will be expected to conduct yourself in a professional manner. These details are covered in the training and orientation program. In particular, your dress standard and your professionalism in regard to attendance and duties will be very important in the role. As you will be role model in the school, you have to adore the Nepali culture. You will be assigned with a contact person, who will guide and provide support to you, please ensure that you follow the advice of the contact person at all times.

The key elements to success in the schools are interpersonal communication, learning attitude, flexibility and patience.

The Schools:

  • Schools are usually large. The schools are private schools only.
  • Schools offer many after school activities for students
  • Class sizes will vary and may be up to 50 students in a single class
  • Schools generally have good equipment and resources, even though English resources are limited.
  • Buildings are generally modern
  • Recreation facilities are available but not as good as they are in your countries.
  • Foreign teachers are not always common in schools

Food and Accommodation
Accommodation during your training and orientation will be at ideal Youth Hostel in Kathmandu Valley. And after your placement in the school, you will be staying in the hostel of the school. During your work placement, you are expected to cover your own living expenses after the introductory period. The schools and training centers will offer free food and accommodation.
