Ideal Friendship-Nepal has also focused to the community development programs in health, social and educational sectors. To do so, it initially chooses a community or a geographic region out of a rigorous need analysis. It then devises an appropriate approach to the developmental needs of the region before seeking for any participation from agencies sharing common goals.
Undertaking of different developmental projects to deliver results that which stays with the local community as well as reflects back to the nation at large, thus contributing to the national developmental indices has been the core service of IDF-Nepal’s Community Development initiative. To support the community, we have initiated fund raising programs. Such as:
i. Scholarships
In educational sector, IDF-Nepal initiates to provide the scholarship to the needy, honest and deserving students for their school education by developing networking with individuals and organizations.
So far, the following scholarships have been provided to the students in different schools in Nepal.
· Friendship Scholarship
The scholarship has benefited one student at Unique Nepal Academy in Kathmandu and two students at Sisnery Higher Secondary School in Bhaktapur with full scholarship (including tiffin, stationeries and uniforms).
· Kinoshita Friendship Scholarship
For three students at Unique Nepal Academy, Kathmandu
· Kaji Memorial Scholarship
For one student at Sikshya Sadan Boarding School, Biratnagar
· Umakant Memorial Scholarship
For one student at Metropolitan Higher Secondary School, Kathmandu.
· Tulasi Memorial Scholarship
There is a scholarship fund in memory of late Tulasi Basnet in Shree Dakshin Kali Lower Secondary School at Pipal Danda of Sindhupalchok. The fund is of 100,000.00 rupees and from these funds four girls from marginalized, underprivileged, untouchables and poor-socio-economic families are benefitted.
Our scholarship fund is expanding day by day. Our volunteers who volunteered via IDF-Nepal have raised fund and sent them to support the needy students to foster the education of the poor, marginalized, underprivileged and gifted students in Nepal. ii. Senior People Home
Nepalese social values and ideals have been eroded with introduction of materialistic culture of Nepal which has shaken the foundation of Nepalese culture and joint family system. Consequently, senior citizens of today are bound to lead the life of seclusion, the deserted life and they are aloof because of the fact that neither their offspring nor the government takes any adequate responsibility to take care of them in their old age. Now, we are tied up with one senior people home in Sindhupalchok District named Chautara Briddhashram as our sister organization.
- How do volunteers get involved?
The volunteers can visit the home that is not far away from the capital city, it is just 3-4 hours driving from Kathmandu. Then they see the condition, they are suggested to decide the things themselves. They can take care of the old people and even they can take hand to hand with them because they are the pillar of the nation once and have rich ocean of knowledge and experience. If they want, they can suggest the mismanaged home to manage it properly.
iii. Fund Raising Program
We conduct different fund raising programs as and when for victims who suffer from natural disasters such as flood, storm, earthquake, landslide etc. We conducted this program in 2007 and 2008 and supported the flood victims.
